Louis Vuitton Montsouris Backpack Restoration
The Montsouris backpack is one of Louis Vuitton 's most recognizable styles. Introduced in the 1990s, it takes its name from Parc Montsouris , one of Paris's historic gardens, beloved for its balance of nature, architecture, and urban life. The backpack echoes that functional elegance: soft lines, natural cowhide finishes, iconic Monogram canvas, and brass hardware.
Louis Vuitton, founded in 1854 as a travel trunk atelier, has built its identity on the precision craftsmanship and durability of its products. The Montsouris backpack embodies this tradition, but—like any worn object—it may require careful attention over time.
We Ciccone Masters carry out a complete restoration of the Montsouris , preserving the original structure as much as possible and reconstructing the worn parts by hand with the same care as the French workshops.
The stages of restoration
1. Removing the old skin
The first phase consists of removing the worn leather : the bottom, attachments, straps and clasps are carefully separated, preserving the canvas and metal elements.
2. Reconstruction of the components in natural cowhide
All new elements are recreated by hand in our workshop, using untreated natural cowhide , like that used by Louis Vuitton. Each piece is cut, sewn, and finished by hand.
3. Edge finishing and attention to detail
The cowhide edges are finished with a dark red brush , faithful to the brand's original. This is a delicate step that requires expert hands: the dye is applied with a brush in several passes to achieve the deep, uniform finish typical of Vuitton products.
4. Cleaning rivets and metal parts
The rivets and brass parts are cleaned and polished with non-aggressive products, so as to restore shine without altering the engravings or natural patinas.
5. Final washing and sanitization
Once reassembled, the backpack undergoes a delicate wash and complete sanitization . The goal is to return a clean, sanitized object ready for long-lasting use.
Materials and techniques faithful to the original
We use only materials compatible with the original: natural cowhide, waxed thread, specific glues, and a manual process that respects the product's structure. No automated processes, no simplifications: each restoration is unique.
