Montsouris Louis Vuitton backpack restoration

Lo Montsouris backpack it is one of the most recognizable models of the maison Louis Vuitton. Presented in the 90s, it takes its name from Parc Montsouris, one of Paris' historic gardens, loved for its balance between nature, architecture and urban life. The backpack recalls that functional elegance: soft lines, natural cowhide finishes, iconic Monogram canvas and brass details.

Louis Vuitton, founded in 1854 as a travel trunk atelier, has built its identity on the precision craftsmanship and durability of its items. The Montsouris backpack embodies this tradition, but — like any lived object — over time it may require careful intervention.

Us Ciccone Masters let's run a complete restoration of the Montsouris, preserving the original structure as much as possible and reconstructing the worn parts by hand with the same care as in the French laboratories.

The phases of the restoration

1. Removing the old skin

The first phase consists of removal of worn leather: bottom, attachments, straps and closures are carefully separated, preserving the canvas and metal elements.

2. Reconstruction of natural cowhide components

All new items come recreated by hand in our laboratory, using untreated natural cowhide, like the one used by Louis Vuitton. Each piece is cut, sewn and finished by hand.

3. Edge finishing and attention to detail

The cowhide edges are finished with a dark red lissa, very faithful to the original one of the brand. It is a delicate phase that requires expert hands: the dye is applied with a brush in several passes, to obtain the deep and uniform finish typical of Vuitton products.

4. Cleaning of rivets and metalwork

The rivets and brass parts come cleaned and polished with non-aggressive products, so as to restore brilliance without altering the engravings or natural patinas.

5. Final washing and sanitization

Once reassembled, the backpack is subjected to a delicate washing and complete sanitisation. The goal is to return an object that is clean, sanitized and ready to be used for a long time to come.

Materials and techniques faithful to the original

We only use materials compatible with the original: natural cowhide, waxed thread, specific glues, and manual processing that respects the structure of the product. No automation, no simplification: each restoration is unique.
